Three senior commanders were killed alongside 11 other Al Shabaab fighters who were bombed as they were taking one of their senior commanders for medical attention at Baladul Amin in Lower Shabelle region.
Among Al Shabaab commanders killed on Saturday is Sheikh Mohamed Abdalla, who is the overall commander of Lower Shabelle region.
The killing of these three top commanders of the Al Qaeda affiliated jihadist group is a big blow to the militants who have been suffering from one blow after another in the hands of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) who are currently wiping them out of their only hideout in Boni Forest.
The attack comes barely a week after US announced a hefty reward offer of upto 27 million US dollars on any information leading to the killing or capturing of the senior Al Shabaab figures in Somalia.
