Tuesday January 22, 2019-Even as the police continue to investigate the DusitD2 terror attack that occurred on Tuesday last week, details have emerged that the Al-Shabaab terrorists had planned a twin terror attacks.
According to sources, Al-Shabaab had planned to bomb Mombasa on the same day they attacked Dusit complex in Nairobi.
The sources revealed that Mombasa attack had targeted two shopping malls and a bank and was scheduled to take place an hour after the Riverside ambush.
However, the terrorists grew cold feet after security agents intercepted communication between the two sets of attackers forcing them to call off the Mombasa attack.
“We received information that the terrorists had planned twin attack in two major cities Nairobi and possibly Mombasa.”
“This prompted an increase in levels of preparedness to counter any possible attack,” a source said.
It is believed the would be Mombasa attackers, numbering about 10, sneaked out of Boni Forest and camped at a hotel in Malindi for a week during which they communicated with another group back in the forest.
