While in the past I was hard on TZ this time round we are on the wrong and we should quietly swallow our pride and fix this problem.
As long as we continue to exclude TZ from the list of the countries that can visit Kenya without being quarantined then they will continue doing this and I won't be surprised if this ended with border closure.
Firstly that list we gave out has a condition in that everyone must present a Covid free certificate which should have been issued less not more than 96 hours, why did we exclude TZ? It was an ill adviced move.
Now folks we cannot have our cake and at the same time eat it. If TZ are not good enough to be on the list then they just did the natural thing of stopping us also. We cannot be going to a neighbour as we wish but choose not to reciprocate.
Irony is that maids , trucks and bus drivers move without any restrictions at cross border points.
I feel for investors in the aviation industry...I feel for airlines.... I feel for our national carrier KQ. Our national carrier has its own challenges then add this where they cannot fly to a lucrative Nbi Dar route.
Finally it is not in our position to judge TZ on how they have handled the Corona crisis....we opted for more stringent measures which I support ...Sweden adopted a TZ similar approach as well and TZ continue with life. Last weekend popular simba sports club unveiled new players at parked Benjamin Mkapa Stadium where they played Vital O SC of Burundi.
KLM. Qatar. Emirates. Ethiopian.....all fly to Dar and Kili eating lunch meant for KQ as immediate neighbours.
TZ is our biggest trading partner and we share one of the longest borders and we speak the same national language.
I appeal to H.E to step in and help resolve this... with one call I believe he can do it.
